Sustainable NE Seattle, a local nonprofit recently held their 6th annual ‘Hands-On Skills Fair’ at the Meadowbrook Community Center. The annual February event included a delicious lunch that filled the Center with lots of good smells.
The event draws from volunteer instructors to share knowledge on a host of ‘at-home’ skills. Some examples include basket-weaving, gardening and even how to make sauerkraut!
The annual event is a great draw for Meadowbrook as Sustainable NE Seattle has supported two great projects in their inception in the community. The Meadowbrook Community Garden and Orchard and the Nathan Hale Urban Farm, both draw on the resources of the volunteer/advocacy groups.
Another highlight were the guest speakers and their presentation on their book, ‘The Hidden Half of Nature’.
Not to spoil the storyline but the authors blend their real life health experience with parallels to nature and it’s ‘hidden’ surprises. Very compelling in its presentation.
Sustainable NE Seattle deserves recognition and appreciation. The event is a community builder and resource beneficial to all. Thank you, SusNE!
