Support for neighbors

The Lake City Holiday Project is busy throughout the Fall and Winter seasons.  The effort involves many and the results support all those in need during this time. This past season when distribution of gifts were delivered, we worked with North Seattle Family Center in an expanded environment.  One of the benefits were to work more closely with the Muslim Women Support representative.  As the holiday ended, we collectively debriefed and realized an opportunity.

As we celebrate the winter season with all our neighbors, the reality of the particular season not a part of our effort was the Eid-al-Fitr. The celebration of the end of Ramadan seemed to give all a learning opportunity. Firstly, it is a summer time season so, when invited to support the July 8 celebration at the Seattle Library (Lake City branch) we worked closely with NSFC to get the celebration gifts (goody bags!) for kids up and ready.

Working closely with the Muslim Women Support rep, we were able to mobilize decorative bags (thank you members of Maple Leaf LutheranChurch) and then have them filled. Sweets and toys filled the bags and then off to deliver to the director at North Seattle Family Center.  Ann Fuller staged them for this coming July 8 event.

It was an honor to be invited and a joy to be a part of the Eid-al-Fitr celebration. We look forward to hearing more and learning more about this eventful holiday. To share a Muslim holiday expression, ‘Hope, love, laughter, warmth, prosperity, joy…A fragrant bouquet filled with life you may enjoy’.
