MC2, its board and community supporters appreciate the value and importance of a welcoming and diverse Lake City. A happy, healthy and plugged-in community works for everyone. Relationships and dialogue are an important piece of the work MC2 strives for.
When the last Winter’s holiday season transpired, the leadership team wanted to better understand how the Lake City Holiday Project was supporting all families in North Seattle. As there has always been a generous community of donors, we wanted to be in conversation on the many diverse recipients’ in the community. It turned out that the best way to proceed was dialoguing with our seasoned partner, the North Seattle Family Center (in Lake City).
Working with NSFC, we’ve enjoyed our ongoing partnership and were able to connect with the Muslim Women Support Advocate there. Engaging with her was a delightful experience. With a patient and calm demeanor, our contact facilitated the cultural dialogue we were looking for. The opportunity came fast.
In July the local Muslim community celebrated the completion of Ramadan (a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to Muhammad according to Islamic belief). With our contact educating us on these most special holidays, we found the opportunity to help support, celebrate and build on a relationship that bring us all together. Held at the Seattle Public Library in Lake City, there was family, food, balloons, gifts and crafts. Quite festive.
Families, friends and celebration. Good work by the friendly folks at the Lake City Library. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and give ‘shout out’ to everyone there. Inclusive support builds community, creates positive memories and promotes new traditions that expands our world understanding. It did ours here at MC2!
