John Samaras, the lead Orchard Steward at MCGO, put out the call. Head to the East Orchard, it’s ‘harvest time’! MCGO planted two Asian plum trees next to the existing senior trees at the Orchard several years ago, so, the harvest this year was significant.
The Asian Plum, along with better known Medley, produce on a yearly basis. Pruning and weeding happen at the site, with CARE as a necessary task to create an exceptional harvest.
With cloth sacks hung around the neck, and a plan to get ripe fruit first, the harvest would also continue into next day. Many of the volunteers support the community garden, as well. And the total for these yummy ones? Over 500 lbs for the two day effort! Great work MCGO!
