In 1996, Seattle Housing and Resource Effort (SHARE) accepted an invitation to open up a nightly shelter, 7 days a week at Maple Leaf Lutheran Church in Meadowbrook. Every evening a group of up to 20 individuals arrive at the church. Using mats stored at the church and a kitchen designated for the residents, they settle in for a night in the community hall of the church.
Since the beginning, church members and community volunteers have supported the effort to welcome the residents staying at the church. Presently, the community kitchen group of the Sustainable NE Seattle (http://sustainableneseattle.ning.com/) along with guests of our Urban Cross Trek Program has provided healthy meals throughout the year. If you would like to help and provide a meal or any other donation, please email Terry, firstname.lastname@example.org
