A second end of summer visit by Waldorf summer campers to the Meadowbrook Community Gardens and Orchards (MCGO) installed more wattle around fruiting trees in the Orchard at Seattle Parks Meadowbrook campus. The goal is to keep trees safe from accidental breakage and vandalism.Using willow, bamboo and rebar, the weaved creation becomes an interesting attraction unto itself. Its also a fun way for folks of all ages to engage and celebrate care for the environment and focus on food security. Wrapped in ‘wattle’ care, so to speak.
When our community is challenged by unemployment, covid and civil unrest, a reminder of the resources and consensus of care for our neighbors that still pulses in the City of Seattle. Many thanks to all the many who are working for justice and equality.
